Rue comes to you shrouded in muslin. Upon which I have hand written the story of who she was in life.
A little representation of our mortality, Rue can serve as a reminder of how we want to live our brief and beautiful lives, and as a way to accept and embrace who we are, here and now.
Rue was made in my smoke free home studio. I used cotton muslin for her body and her shroud. Her body is made with a combination of machine and hand stitching. I hand stuff and hand assembled her using a needle and thread. She is 18" long.
'Her life was a gift, and she treated it that way. Mornings were celebratory, afternoons were a luxury, and evenings were full of gratitude. She sang in the kitchen, baking for everyone she knew and some folks she didn't. Her feet were bare more often than not, and their first contact with spring grass never failed to make her a little weepy with wonder. She loved old people and children and was beloved, in turn, by both'.
