Absence struggled, because all she felt was No-One where there ought to be Someone. Nothing in place of the Everything she had felt before she ever knew Grief.
Absence wears a beautifully draped off the shoulder gown in black. Her neckline and waist are embellished with long soft feathers. She holds an empty frame in her arms, bereft of its inhabitant. She wears pearls at her wrist and ears, as well as around her neck. Her pearls represent half-mourning, traditionally observed for the 6 months beyond the First Year of Full Mourning. I chose to put her in Half Mourning as a reminder that there is no time line for Grief. She comes with a wee handmade, hand embroidered linen hankie of my choice.
Absence was made in my smoke free, one cat household. She is made of cotton muslin and fiberfill. I made her and her clothing using a combination of machine and hand stitching. Her hair is wool. Her elbows, knees and wrists bend. She stands 23" tall.
