Faeries fascinate us for their ability to be seen as benign, innocent and kind, but also as dangerous, ruthless, and wild. I've combined these attributes in the creation of this series of Fae dolls.

Meet Hellebore

Dressed in night and moonshine
She wanders o'er the moors
with mischief and with malice
She touches cottage doors

On waking in the morning
To spoilt milk and canker'd sore
You'll know she's been a'visiting
the deadly Hellebore

Hellebore is the first doll I've made in a shorter length dress. The fabric is a light and very soft black fabric. The dress falls from her left shoulder, and wrapping under her right arm. It is gathered at her waist on the left side, and accented with grey trimmed flower and vine appliqués. The flowers and vines flow across her chest and right shoulder, and climb up her neck and down her left arm. She even has vines growing up her leg. The hem of her dress is accented with the same black and gray flower and vine appliqués. Her wings are black with appliqué accents and machine embroidered scalloped embellishment on the flower in the center, there are antique faceted black beads. On her chest are two tiny antique jet black bees. Her hair is black, with a purple and black braided accent, and has two bright green beetle wings at the back.

Hellebore was made in my home studio. I use cotton muslin for her body which I dyed using avocado stones, her legs are black cotton. Hellebore's body parts are made with a combination of machine and hand stitching. I then hand stuffed and assembled her using a needle and thread.

Hellebore is 23" tall
