Each Mourning Doll is a labor of love. I make Mourning Dolls as a way for you to nurture beauty while holding space for your grief and honoring your mourning.

Meet Heloise...

"Heloise grieved for all that would never be, for the potential and the hope she had held. In her mourning she sought comfort in the words upon her dear one's stone. We only part to meet again".

Heloise's dress is in the Georgian Era style, with an empire waist that I created with a black velvet ribbon. Her neckline is a small detail of ornate crochet trim. Her black silk dress is overlaid with a delicately floral patterned black lace with scalloped edges accenting the hem. Her shawl is the softest lace with a flowing pattern like subtle waves. She wears feathers adorned with tiny onyx beads in her soft hair, and her dangling earrings feature black onyx beads from a 1920's necklace.

Heloise's hair is hand washed and dyed sheep wool. She is 24" tall. She has the quote 'We only part to meet again' hand written on her torso. She comes with two small black bordered cards, one with her name and one with her quote. I have handwritten both on heavy stock watercolor paper with a dip pen and sumi ink.

Heloise was made in my home studio. I use cotton muslin for her body which I dyed with avocado skins. Her legs are black linen and sewn at the knees so they bend. Heloise's body is made with a combination of machine and hand stitching. I hand stuff and hand assembled her using a needle and thread. I've given her elbows, so her arms bend.
