Katherine Howard (1525-1542)

Katherine was a mere child of 15 when she was wed to 49 year old Henry. He doted on her, showering her with jewels and gowns, and never saying no to her whims. She came from genteel poverty to a lavish court and spent her time on dancing and pretty clothes.

She was seen as a sweet and devoted wife, until she was eventually revealed to have been unfaithful to Henry. He was deeply in love with her, and sought to prove her accusers wrong. When the truth was revealed to it's full extent, his plan to divorce her, became an order of execution by beheading. Katherine was killed at 17.

Katherine's bodice, sleeves and overskirt are a lavish and colorful floral brocade on black with gold embroidery. Her under sleeves are black satin. Her underskirt and sleeves are made of a soft blue silk. Katherine wears a double strand of gold beads and a large ornate charm with a blue gem. Her neckline is lined with gold and diamond trim and blue gems. Her hood is black and gold and her veil is the same blue silk as her skirt.

Katherine was made in my smoke free, one cat household. She is made of cotton muslin and fiberfill. I made her and her clothing using a combination of machine and hand stitching. Her hair is felting wool, worn in a braid down her back.
