Faeries fascinate us for their ability to be seen as benign, innocent and kind, but also as dangerous, ruthless, and wild. I've combined these attributes in the creation of this series of Fae dolls.
Meet Lobelia.
Sing to me in footsteps
Across the grasses sweet,
Dance for me in river song
Until we two shall meet!
Tempt me not to kiss thee,
for poison wets your lips;
My heart shall race ahead of me,
and faltering, my steps.
I'll lay down, wracked with shuddering,
around my head you'll crowd;
my eyes a'glazed with fever
you'll whisper then, aloud,
Lie still for me, my darling,
for here you shall decay
and feed my roots and sisters
as we, in breezes, sway.
Lobelia was made in my home studio. Her dress is pale pink, light, airy and incredibly soft. It features a fitted bodice with two layers of skirt with machine stitched vine and leaf embellishments around the hem. Flowers and vine appliqués are hand sewn onto her dress and her body. Her wings are avocado dyed cotton muslin faced with tulle and flower appliqués. Her soft white hair is accented with green and is hand sewn to her head. It is made of Tesswater sheep Locks.
I use cotton muslin for her body which I dyed using avocado stones. Lobelia's body is made with a combination of machine and hand stitching. I then hand stuffed and assembled her using a needle and thread.
