Each Mourning Doll is a representation and embodiment of grief and each one is a labor of love. I make Mourning Dolls to give you a way to hold your grief, and to honor your mortality.

Meet Gunnhild...

"Gunnhild was ever seeking signs of her beloved. She watched the Northern Lights, reading love notes in their dance."

Gunnhild's dress is made with soft matte black fabric, and features faceted glass bead embellished lace trim at her waist. She has a very traditional lace neckline with a pale peach vintage cameo brooch which is accented with seed pearls. Seed pearls were used to represent tears in Victorian England. Her veil is antique lace from the 1860's, and her earrings are jet glass beads.

This is the first time I've used this style of sheep wool for a doll's hair.  It is extremely soft and fine in texture and hangs down her back with braided accents at her hairline. I recommend that you handle it gently. She is 24" tall. She has the quote 'I seek signs that you're still near me' hand written on her torso. She comes with a small black bordered card with her name and quote handwritten by me.

Gunnhild was made in my home studio. I use cotton muslin  for her body which I dye using avocado skins. Gunnhild's body is made with a combination of machine and hand stitching. I then hand stuffed and assembled her using a needle and thread.
