Meet Antonia...

"Antonia had chosen the words 'Not Lost But Gone Before for the gravestone of her dearly departed. She felt both comfort and despair whenever she looked upon it".

Antonia's dress is soft matte black fabric in a Georgian Era style. It is overlaid with a uniquely patterned lace, which makes me think of the movement of long hair under water, floating and delicate. Her dress has a high waist accent of floral beading and her shawl is the same soft and flowing lace as her dress. The lace is finely scalloped with a small fringe at the bottom hem. Her necklace and bracelet are small pieces of a delicately linked antique watch chain.

Her hair is hand washed and dyed sheep wool. She is 24" tall. She has the quote 'Not lost but gone before' hand written on her torso. She comes with two small black bordered cards, one with her name and one with her quote. I have handwritten both on heavy stock watercolor paper with a dip pen and sumi ink.

Antonia was made in my home studio. I used cotton muslin for her body which I dyed using tea. Her legs are black linen and sewn at the knees so they bend. Antonia's body is made with a combination of machine and hand stitching. I hand stuff and hand assembled her using a needle and thread. I've used thread to create elbows, so her arms bend as well.
