Constancy found no respite from the depth of her Mourning. It was as much her companion as her shadow. Time felt serpentine and fluid.
Constancy's bodice features cream antique lace trim and a small button at her neckline. Her cuffs are trimmed in the same antique lace. This cream lace represents half-mourning, traditionally observed for the 6 months beyond the First Year of Full Mourning. I chose to put her in Half Mourning as a reminder that there is no time line for Grief. Her waist is accented with an ornate crochet trim with delicate fringe. She wears a large glass front locket containing the workings of an antique pocket watch which represents the constancy of Grief. Her shawl is black lace, as is the little head piece she wears, pinned in place with an antique Mourning Pin. She comes with a wee handmade, hand embroidered linen hankie of my choice.
Constancy was made in my smoke free, one cat household. She is made of cotton muslin and fiberfill. I made her and her clothing using a combination of machine and hand stitching. Her hair is wool. Her elbows and knees bend. She stands 23" tall.
