What sort of Faerie lives in a Poison Garden, where the very air is dangerous to breathe? I imagined her wild and spare, nearly naked, her skin tart and green like a very young apple, bitterness and beauty. She would blend in with foliage and shadows, slipping between the hellebore and fawn lilies.
I considered green for Ivy's wings, but chose the rich garnet red of her Autumn colors. Her skin and hair are light green and she is covered in black floral appliqués. She is wee, standing 17" tall. Her arms and legs bend, and she sits prettily on a shelf.
Ivy was made by me in my smoke free, cat friendly home studio. I used cotton muslin for her body which I dyed. Her body is made with a combination of machine and hand stitching. I then hand stuffed and assembled her using a needle and thread. Her wings are synthetic and embellished with machine embroidery and hand applied floral appliqués.
If you choose to give Ivy a home, remember to handle her with care and for goodness sake, no matter how tempting, don't kiss her.
